Ca 1850. Covers show light wear at spine ends and along external hinges but remains very clean. A single spot of dampstaining is seen in the back cover cloth. Internally, the book is also very clean but shows a very small amount of damp staining to the top of the block, well above the text in most cases, scattered on the first 90 pages. Otherwise, the text shows only lightly scattered spots of foxing with some toning at page edges. ; Period fine bound in 3/4 blood red leather with raised bands and heavy, ornate gilt decoration on the spine. Cloth covered boards with gilding at edges and gilded top block edge make this book sparkle, marbled endpapers and dozens of beautiful engravings also add to the books eye appeal. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 500 pages
